So the printer and mac were recognising each other, but not communicating properly. Having read various helpful posts I discovered that I needed to:Ī) connect via the printer's IP address, to be found in its printed self test/configuration page.ī) go to print/fax in system prefs and click on Add Printer.Ĭ) Under the IP tab, use HP Jetdirect - Socket in the Protocol bar, key in the IP in the Address bar, put the printer name in the Name bar and find the relevant PPD in the Print Using bar.īack in the Print/fax panel, I made sure that print sharing was on, but when I tried to print something the HP LaserJet status window showed the line as busy, and was trying to connect for ever. It's connected via the ethernet hub for sharing, but could not be found in the printer setup.
I think I've finally cracked it! I've just spent a couple of days trying to get my old but very reliable HP LaserJet 5 to work with Snow Leopard. The Installable Options are determined and the printer is added. It will use its IP Address as the name if nothing is entered. Type in a name you want to give the printer.
When set to a static value it looks something like:
